Marathon 2: Durandal, originally released in 1995, is a first-person shooter game, developed by Bungie, part of the massively multiplayer science fiction series Marathon games by Bungie. It has been released as a free download for Windows systems since the game's release. It is primarily set in the fictional world of Lh'owon (also known as Oya), on the S'pht's home planet. As the name suggests, the game is played on a virtual planet, where the player plays as a security officer on the Marathon military's Interplanetary Task Force.
In the game's plot, the player is tasked to protect the Lh'owon colony from attacks by the Covenant and Epsilon Halo's Covenant forces. It is the first game of the Marathon series to make use of the Marathon universe. Its storyline revolves around the aftermath of the events of Marathon: ODST, with the plot focusing on the ongoing struggle between the forces of the Covenant and the S'pht. In addition, the plot also takes the players back to the beginning of the game after they complete the story of Marathon: ODST. The game's overall storyline is not only one of its main features, but also something that makes it stand out amongst other first person shooter games.
The game includes numerous features, which make it unique among the other online shooter games. Aside from its interesting plot and storyline, it also has some great graphics and sound effects that really enhance the immersion of the players. For instance, when you are in combat with an enemy, the game will present you with a number of different views, giving you a very good idea of what your character is actually seeing. In addition, the different weapon types, which are used by the players, have their own characteristics. For example, a plasma pistol is a lot more powerful than a pistol, which makes it a better choice for a sniper class.
